Division Head, Liberal Arts, OSU-OKC

July 1, 2013 - Present

I supervise 15 full-time and almost 100 part-time faculty and staff in three departments: Behavioral Sciences, English, and Humanities. Liberal Arts is the largest division on campus and the most profitable. We generate over $2 million profit for the campus to fund other programs. Last year our students saved an estimated $1 million on textbooks. Liberal Arts leads the push to adopt Open Educational Resources at the OSU-OKC campus.

Innovation Award

2019 & 2017

I won this award at OSU-OKC for innovations I led or suggested. In 2019, a group of Liberal Arts professors was recognized for their efforts to save OSU-OKC students money by switching to free textbooks. Our efforts saved our students approximately $1 million. In 2017, I was part of a group of professors who were recognized for teaching a team-taught, interdisciplinary, special topics honor's course titled, "The Philosophy of Good and Evil".

Lead Instructor of Communication at OSU-OKC

August 2008 - July 1, 2013

In this position, I was responsible for all communication courses. I hired and fired part-time professors. I designed and shared curriculum. I reviewed and selected textbooks. I evaluated teaching performance. I constructed an assessment process. I engaged in action research about my classes.

This award is given annually to the most promising graduate students in the College Education, Health, and Aviation at Oklahoma State University.

Debate Coach / Instructor (Various Institutions)

Fall, 1998 - Spring, 2006

I supervised the nationally competitive, tradition-rich debate teams. I supervised over $85,000 in travel and scholarship resources. I supervised up to three assistant coaches and graduate assistants. Our teams’ sizes varied from 8-20 students. Under my leadership the program at UCO went from being ranked #163 in CEDA points to ranked as high as 4th in the country. We qualified two teams to the first elimination rounds appearance at the Cross-Examination Debate Association National Tournament in over 10 years. We also qualified for the National Debate Tournament invitation in over 20 years. Our teams finished as Runner-Ups at the National Junior Division Debate Tournament. We qualified for the Semi-Finals of the Novice National Championship. Additionally, I directed undergraduate research and preparation for debate tournaments and coached students at debate tournaments up to three weekends a month.  I also planned and hosted various special events including the annual Oklahoma High School Teachers’ Workshops for the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, several high school debate tournaments, the Joe C. Jackson Intercollegiate Debate Tournament, the UCO Public Debate Series, and summer workshops for high school debaters. Next, I managed team public relations including the recruitment of high school debaters and assistant coaches and writing press releases to promote team accomplishments. Finally, in addition to the above duties, I routinely taught between 6 and 12 hours.
